The common alternative to an Emerging Future is one that is intended, planned, shaped or designed. All of these familiar and relied-upon approaches are fine - with one problem: each of these approaches relies on what I already know as a platform from which to intend, plan , shape or design my futrure. In that single instant of choosing to engage in thiat way, I have chosen a path that creates my future from the limitations of what I already know. My future becomes a creation that is shaped by my past.
An Emerging Future is just that - a future that emerges, in its own time and through a process that is devoid of the intellect in its design. It is also a process that relies on the body to lead, and invites the intellect to follow that lead. (This is revolutionary stuff! Since when does the intellect take a back seat to anything?!?!?!?!) Not only does an Emerging Future have no need for the intellect, the intellect becomes a hindrance to potential and our capacity to touch the unknowable. My body - with its direct link to a flow of information that goes beyond logic and language - knows exactly how to do that. Pregnancy is such a process. Perfection unfolds in a way and at a rate that is most suitable for the desired outcome. Only on rare occasion is intervention desired, warranted or required. For the vast majority of pregnancies, we can allow ourselves to let go and trust that it will unfold exactly as it should and we can enjoy the ride! To my knowledge, women are still the gender that gives birth. Women instinctively know how to surrender to a process of the body without fear and without the need to interfere. An Emerging Future requires this innate ability to know that doing nothing is the best thing to do.
An Emerging Future can only occur when we relax into and surrender to the body. To do that, I must reclaim the territory of the body, reconnect to the Signal from Self, and invite and allow its natural genuis to take me where I need to go. Resistance to any of this will only give me more of what I’ve already got: a linear, sequential approach to living fully… and THAT is an oxymoron!
This blog is a day-to-day example of how an Emerging Futures experience might look. It tracks my Emerging Future and the flow of awareness that both preceeds and follows the expression of that future, once it emerges. The paradox is that if I can know an emerging future before it arrives, it isn’t one! I can only notice it after it’s been formed. Living in that way means that life is a series of surprises, adventures and moments of immense discovery. That works for me!
